THE LOOKING GLASS ART PROJECT INVITES COMMUNITY TO HELP SHAPE PUBLIC ART MEMORIALIZING THE 1915 MILLCREEK FLOOD

ERIE, PA – November 5, 2024 – The Looking Glass Art Project, in partnership with the Erie County Conservation District (ECCD), Erie Art Company, and FEED, today announced a series of community engagement sessions to gather input for a new public art installation. This permanent piece will be dedicated to the lasting memory and lessons of the 1915 Millcreek Flood, one of Erie’s most significant historical events.

The public is invited to engage directly with the artists and project organizers to share stories, perspectives, and ideas that will inform the creation of the final artwork. This installation aims to serve as both a memorial and a visual reminder of the environmental history of the Millcreek area.

“Public art has the power to educate and connect us to our past,” said a representative for The Looking Glass Art Project. “The 1915 flood drastically shaped the geography and policy of Erie. We want this artwork, which will be installed permanently at FEED, to reflect the community’s memory and vision for resilience.”

The engagement sessions will be held at FEED (1307 State Street, Erie, PA 16501) on the following dates:

  • Monday, November 10th from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM

  • Monday, November 17th

  • Wednesday, November 19th

All community members are encouraged to attend to contribute to the creative process.
