liveFEED | borbo/Prism, f-f-f-f-Faulty Tower
borbo/Prism are a dynamic performing duo known for their collaborative work in live-coding audio/visuals (algoraves), comedic clowning, and touring live arts. The duo frequently performs across the country and the Midwest, with Borbo typically handling the audio and live coding, while Prism handles the visual components and projection art. The duo brings a unique blend of audiovisual performance, clowning, and interactive spectacles, performing high-energy, contemporary clown and puppet shows. borbo/Prism is an eponymous duo of artists.
They hail from Bushwick, Brooklyn- famously memed for its colorful cast of characters- where they work extensively in the DIY experimental performance art scene. Prism’s (they/she) work is focused on visual storytelling, with a heavy reliance on folkloric imagery. Having come-of-age in the Appalachian countryside of Ohio, their works’ themes often reflect on the conflicting reality of tradition and personal identity. Prism practices mostly in the mediums of conventional “feminine craft” (sewing, embroidery, appliqué, textiles). They then force new meaning onto these heavily connotated mediums by enmeshing them with the performance art practices typically overrun with male artists (puppetry, noise music, clowning). @maximum_security_prism borbo (it/its) is a queer non-binary percussionist, performance artist, and noise clown. It draws inspiration from a wide range of genres, including psychedelia, free improvisation, and jazz-fusion.
Anything it can strike, scrape or shake is a potential musical instrument - drum sets, found objects, toys, and self-made percussive sculptures are all fair game. borbo has also been observed using live electronics and contact mics as an electro-acoustic tool to augment its percussive sonic palette. A natural buffoon since birth, borbo rejects self-seriousness in favor of whimsy, queering its own reality by transfiguring clown from performance art to lifestyle and gender. @borbo.the.clown f-f-f-f-Faulty Tower was founded in 2017 by Rust Belt-based musicians Brendan Fitzgerald (drums/pedal steel) and Ethan Hayden (trombone), who have played together in chamber and large ensemble settings for over a decade.
The project foregrounds open and improvisational strategies, idiosyncratic sampling, and live electronics.
