Welcoming Jackson King to the OPENFEED Residency Summer 2026
We are thrilled to welcome audiovisual artist Jackson King to the OPENFEED Residency. Operating at the fascinating intersection of analog video synthesis, experimental electronics, and live performance, King brings a deeply physical and custom-built approach to his art.
Jackson King is seen in the UFO room where he chose to station his residency work .
About the Artist
Currently completing his BS in Integrated Design & Media at NYU Tandon (Class of '26), King views tool-building not just as a technical prerequisite, but as an inseparable part of his creative expression. His work dives into the mechanics of perception—exploring how sound and image can manipulate the nervous system, distort time, and manufacture a profound sense of presence.
Jackson King is using OPENFEED’s space, gear, and time to work on his installations POC.
The Art of Experimentation and Play
King's methodology is rooted in a continuous cycle of discovery, where the act of tinkering with analog circuitry and custom software becomes a primary driver for new creative output. By prioritizing play and open-ended experimentation, he allows the inherent unpredictability of his hardware to guide the aesthetic direction of his projects. This approach ensures that each installation or performance remains a living exploration of audiovisual possibilities.
Background & Practice
King's roots lie in underground event production. While in the Bay Area, he founded Cave Rave, an experimental event series uniquely staged in the historic Sutro Baths cave. The project—which earned coverage from Resident Advisor and the SF Standard—focused on carving out spaces for underrepresented artists and audiences, leveraging the raw acoustics of unconventional architecture to create irreplaceable experiences.
Today, that vibrant, communal energy is channeled directly into his studio practice. His current setup allows the visual and the sonic to interact in real time, utilizing:
Eurorack modular synthesis
Drum machines
Analog video hardware
Custom hand-built patches and programs
Through the languages of psychoacoustics, video synthesis, and techno, King creates works that reward extremity. For him, every technical choice is inherently an emotional one, relying on the physical principles of tension and release. We look forward to seeing how his custom machines and immersive audiovisual experiments evolve during his time with OPENFEED.
