The Erie Art Company TinkerSpace and Media Art Flow Lab, located in the FEED Media Arts Building, is a hands-on creative space for people who are curious about how physical making and live digital media come together. It is designed for creative entrepreneurs, artists, students, educators, and community members who want to explore creative technology—whether they are experienced makers or complete beginners.

The TinkerSpace and Flow Lab respond to these needs by providing an inclusive downtown environment where residents of all ages, especially youth, can experiment with media arts and technology, build skills, and connect with others. By lowering barriers to access and emphasizing creative inquiry, the TinkerSpace supports Erie’s revitalization goals.

Objectives

1. Establish a Live-Media TinkerSpace focused on the software–hardware interface for interactive and immersive art.

2. Increase access to evening, performance-ready creative infrastructure for artists, makers, and technologists.

3. Strengthen connectivity between existing makerspaces by enabling the transformation of physical objects into digital, audience-facing works.

Outcomes

1. Artists gain new technical skills in projection mapping, sensors, and real-time media.

2. 10-20 phy-digital works are developed annually

3. Increased public engagement through showcases that activate downtown cultural spaces.

4. Improved retention of creative talent through access to advanced tools and mentorship.

Project like these are made possible by a grant from ECGRA
