Alex Anthes is Fall Sandbox Residency Artist

To our vibrant community of artists, innovators, and supporters,

It is with great excitement that we introduce the newest creative force to join our ecosystem: Alex Anthes, our incoming Sandbox Resident Artist.

The FEED Sandbox Residency is a unique initiative, distinct in its focus on pure process and uninhibited exploration. Unlike traditional residencies that culminate in a final exhibition, the Sandbox is designed as a creative laboratory. Here, artists are given the time, space, and resources to play, to test the limits of new technologies, to follow nascent ideas, and even to embrace failure as a vital part of the artistic journey. It is a commitment to research and development in its most authentic form, valuing the questions over the answers.

Alex Anthes joins us with a compelling practice that she will investigate during their residency, they plan to explore incorporating sound as an additional dimension of the work.

Alex’s process involves using personal family photographs and videos to identify recurring symbols, which are then layered into compositions that blend abstraction and representation.

FEED invites you to engage with this process. Alex’s goal is to use the Sandbox Residency to expand a mixed-media body of work exploring light as both a literal medium and a symbolic reference. She plans to experiment with analog TVs, projectors, and reflective surfaces. Her practice emphasizes layering in printmaking, sculpture, and collage, often incorporating actual light between materials like mylar, using techniques such as hole-poking to carry light.

The FEED Sandbox is less about a final product, it is deeply about dialogue. We will be announcing opportunities for open studio hours and informal discussions where you can connect with Alex Anthes and witness their work as it evolves.

Please join me in offering a warm welcome to Alex Anthes. We are thrilled to see where their curiosity leads.
